How the score works
A plain explanation of the math.
The quiz asks about your savings, debt, pension, spending clarity, current contributions, other income plans, and (if relevant to your target retirement age) pre-Medicare health coverage. Each answer is worth points, and your score is your points earned as a percentage of the points available for your specific path — since the questions themselves adapt to when you're hoping to retire.
If you're aiming to retire before 59½, the contributions question asks specifically about liquid savings you can access before then, rather than generic retirement account contributions — because for an early retiree, the accounts that matter are the ones you can actually touch. Your housing situation (rent vs. own) is never scored either way; it only changes which planning note you see, since renting and owning are just different situations, not better or worse ones.

Why this exists.
